Mobility scooters help thousands of people to get out and about and assist with living an independent life. However, the challenge of lifting the heavy parts into and out of a vehicle means that venturing further afield can be a different matter.

BENEFITS OF AN AUTOCHAIR SCOOTER LIFT

Autochair will send out a full trained assessor to come and assess your scooter and vehicle and suggest the perfect lift for you.

All the lifts are bespoke installed and made to fit your vehicle perfectly.

Autochair’s technicians will work around your schedule to come and fit your lift at a suitable time for you and give you full training once installed.

WHY CHOOSE A BOOT HOIST?

A boot hoist is the perfect addition to a car or van for someone with reduced mobility, whether that is due to a disability, health problem, age or other issues, who wants to keep their independence when venturing out of the house.

Without needing to change your car, these hoists are easy to accommodate and allow you to take your mobility device with you wherever you go. These hoists fit perfectly in most cars, as long as the boot of your vehicle opens far enough for your scooter or wheelchair to fit through.

AUTOCHAIR'S STORY

Necessity is the mother of invention, as they say, and when engineer David Walker was paralysed in an accident in 1975, he wanted to find a way to get to work without having to rely on someone else to load and unload his wheelchair from the boot of his car.

Finding that there was nothing suitable on the market, David decided to invent his own solution, eventually developing a mechanism that hoisted his chair into a box on the roof of his car by 1979. Impressed, other people asked him to make a similar product for them and demand was so strong, David was able to put his idea into production in 1983. Autochair was born.

Over the next few years David steadily grew the company, increasing the range of products, moving into new and bigger premises and bringing his three sons on board, changing the lives of thousands of people along the way.

Autochair is now based in a state-of-the-art £2m factory and is a global leader in the design, manufacture and installation wheelchair hoists, people lifts and other driving aids – and all because its founder wanted to find a way to lead a more independent life.

Royal recognition - David Walker, founder and creator of the Autochair lift received an OBE from the Queen in October 2014 in recognition of his services to people with disabilities.

Confined to a wheelchair following an accident in 1975, David invented a way of loading and unloading his wheelchair into his car so that he could enjoy the benefits of independent travel.

His invention led him to start Autochair in 1983 and our ever-growing range of products have helped many thousands of people just like David regain their independence ever since.
