Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the Lupin can be made airline-friendly by purchasing the airline-compatible battery option, which has a capacity of 288Wh. This option can be found on our accessories page.

Airlines typically have specific regulations regarding batteries, so it's essential to check with your airline to ensure compliance with their policies.

The Lupin and Ren mobility scooters offer distinct features to cater to various preferences and requirements:

  • Motor: The Ren is equipped with two motors, potentially providing greater power and performance compared to the single motor of the Lupin.
  • Brakes: For enhanced safety and control, the Ren features both front and rear brakes, while the Lupin is equipped with a single rear brake.
  • Load Capacity: With a maximum load capacity of 165kg, the Ren is suitable for heavier users, whereas the Lupin supports up to 100kg.
  • Weight: Weighing 28kg, the Ren is slightly heavier than the 23kg Lupin. This weight difference can affect portability and manoeuvrability.
  • Airline-Friendly: The Lupin can be taken on planes when used with its airline battery. The ren is not suitable for airlines as due to its dual motors, it requires more power to drive.

The Lupin folds manually for easy storage and transport:

  • Start by lowering the seat using the latch located on the back of the seat.
  • Next, push down the pin on the handlebar to fold it down.
  • Secure the folded scooter by fastening the strap provided, which holds everything in place.

This folding mechanism ensures that the Lupin can be conveniently stored in a compact form when not in use, making it suitable for travel and storage in various spaces.

Yes, the Lupin features a front drawbar that extends outwards. This drawbar serves dual purposes:

  • It can be used to pull the folded Lupin along like a suitcase, facilitating easier transportation in airports, train stations, or other travel settings.
  • Additionally, the drawbar can function as an extended footrest when the scooter is in use, providing added comfort for the user.

This feature enhances the practicality and versatility of the Lupin, catering to both mobility needs and travel convenience.

Yes, the Lupin can accommodate taller users, although comfort may vary depending on individual preferences and proportions. It's advisable to review the scooter's dimensions, particularly seat height and legroom, to determine suitability:

  • The Lupin has been used comfortably by individuals over 6ft tall without reported issues, indicating its adaptability to varying user heights.
  • However, taller users may wish to physically assess the scooter or seek additional measurements to ensure an optimal fit and comfort level.

This consideration allows potential users to make informed decisions based on their specific height and comfort requirements.

The tyres of the Lupin are pneumatic, meaning they are air-filled. Pneumatic tyres offer several advantages, including:

  • Enhanced shock absorption and smoother ride quality, particularly on uneven or rough surfaces.
  • Improved traction and stability, promoting safer handling and manoeuvring.
  • Adjustable tyre pressure to suit different terrains and user preferences, providing flexibility in performance and comfort.

Pneumatic tyres are commonly favoured for mobility scooters due to their ability to enhance overall comfort and ride experience, making them suitable for various outdoor and indoor environments.

Lupin performed brilliantly

Our destination was Cape Town, South Africa where our Son and his family reside.

Departing from Heathrow where we left our car in the official Valet Parking at terminal 3, the Lupin was immediately put to use in transferring me from parking to check-in desk. From there to a lounge/departure gate we had booked an assistance wheelchair but we were given the choice of retaining the scooter for the whole time up to the departure gate where it would be taken from us and stowed in the aircraft hold. We took this option which proved very convenient.

On arrival at the departure gate we removed the flight-legal battery for hand-carrying as per the flight regulations and collapsed the scooter securing it with the velcro strap supplied. This enabled the ground crew to manoeuvre it like a suitcase with wheels.

On completion of the flight the scooter was awaiting us at the aircraft door where we quickly reconfigured it to enable me to use it immediately throughout the airport and up to our onward transport. The ease of collapsing the scooter for stowage and then re-configuring for use was a feature greatly appreciated by those having to carry out this task.

During our time in Cape Town and surrounding areas the Lupin performed brilliantly, coping with varying surfaces and many inclines that I would not necessarily have been as confident of attempting with other makes of disability scooters. Similarly the manoeuvrability in shopping malls and supermarkets etc was superb.

There did not appear to be as many disability scooters in South Africa as the UK and the Lupin drew a surprising amount of complementary remarks wherever we went.

Since returning from holiday, this has now been repeated in the UK with several requests for information as to where we obtained it. I was delighted to be able provide the relevant contact details.

In conclusion I would highly recommend this scooter to anyone needing to get from A to B with acceptable comfort and great practicality, particularly in respect of weight and ease of transportation.
